The Sweetest Thing

A quieter way of knowing.
Where love had not yet learned to become fire, only taste.
Where presence still moved softly, without urgency, without collapse.

This is what it felt like before everything began to lean toward ignition.

Your shoulder curves into mine

and the world contracts

to the warmth pressed between us.

Honey drips from the hollow of your collarbone,

thick, slow, impossible to hold back,

the sweetness pooling where your skin

meets the air

meets mine.

....

Love tastes like black coffee

steaming between our knees on Sunday mornings,

warm, molten, patient,

curling around our words,

slow enough to linger

on lips, on tongues, on the edges of memory,

light swirling like smoke through the quiet room.

Like black tea poured over our hands,

bitter, grounding, deep,

its warmth settling in the hollow spaces

where silence once lived,

pulling the edges of us closer

with a gravity we do not resist.

Like dark chocolate melting on my tongue,

rich, sticky, heavy with heat

that coils along the hollow of my ribs,

folding sweetness into fire,

each bite a confession

we do not dare to speak.

Like molasses pressed between fingers and lips,

dark, stubbornly sweet,

slow as devotion,

persistent as memory,

a flavor that lingers in the body

long after the taste is gone.

Like petals brushing skin,

jasmine, gardenia, hibiscus,

their scent threading into the blaze of our bodies,

a delicate, endless fire

woven from touch, from breath, from presence.

....

Your heartbeat under my palm

is a drum I taste on my tongue,

a rhythm trembling through the soles of my feet,

coiling along my spine,

sinking into the hollow behind my ribs,

making me shiver in slow, exquisite waves.

Love is not a whisper.

It is the collarbone’s hollow

holding what spills.

The drum that lives in the palm.

The flavor that the body refuses to forget.

It is this,

specific, warm, persistent,

the sweetest thing we never had to name.

The coffee swirls black, molten, its gravity pulling small tremors from my hands to yours. The world tilts with a single inhale, the ordinary breaking into something fierce, unruly, alive.

Steam rises like a memory refusing to fade, curling around the edges of morning, softening the hard lines of sleep still clinging to skin. Outside, the world continues its polite pretending. Here, everything leans toward collapse in the most beautiful way.

I hold it in my bones, watch it fold, fold, fold. A slow eruption of flavor, fire, and quiet astonishment. The cup is heavier than it should be, or maybe it is me becoming weightless in the presence of this almost-sacred simplicity. Something ancient moves in the way heat travels, older than language, knowing exactly where to settle inside a person.

Your presence does not interrupt the moment. It completes it. Not as arrival, but as return, the way gravity completes falling things. The space between us tightens and loosens at the same time, like breath learning its own rhythm.

One kiss lands on his lips, honey on the tongue. The world tilts again, reckless, exquisite, undone. Not an ending, not a beginning, only a slipping into something that refuses to be named correctly. Even time hesitates, unsure whether to move forward or simply stay and watch.

The coffee cools without permission. The moment does not ask to be repeated. And still, everything in me understands this is what it means to be briefly, entirely alive.

June arrives here without announcement.
No ceremony.
Only a quiet drop in the air
the body understands
before the mind finds language for it.

The cold here is not harsh.
It is an invitation.
Come inside.
Slow down.
Remember what matters.

My body knows June
before the calendar agrees.
It moves differently
reaches for warmth
the way a plant reaches for light,
not urgently,
but steadily,
without apology.

The blanket becomes architecture
heavy, soft, specific.
A small world made for closeness,
for however many bodies fit
when the outside turns distance
and the inside becomes choice.

In Malawi, June also blooms quietly.
Jacaranda fading into violet memory.
Bougainvillea holding onto color
like it refuses to let go of summer too soon.
Wildflowers scattered along roadsides
like soft punctuation in the dust.

The air carries tangerines.
Bright, sharp sweetness.
Peeled slowly in kitchens
where conversation lingers longer than food,
fingers sticky with sunlight and citrus.

June is the month of food
that asks for time.
Warm, meaty, slow-cooked things
that take longer to make
than to finish
because conversation keeps interrupting hunger
in the best possible way.

Someone laughs.
Someone refills the pot.
Someone says something true
into the steam rising from a bowl
and the table holds it
the way good tables do.

Outside, the mist sits low on the hills.
Maize fields rest in quiet rows.
Wood smoke drifts upward
from kitchen fires
into a sky the color of patience.

The world is quieter in June.

And in that quiet,
something in me remembers
how to be still.

Not empty still.
Full still.

The kind of stillness
that arrives when cold outside
and warmth inside
agree, for a moment,
to exist in the same breath.

Held together
by a blanket,
a bowl of something slow,
and the soft permission
to simply remain.

This is my June.
Not the world’s.
Mine.

They told us perfection had one language,
one mirror,
one smooth way to enter the room.

But listen.
Some of us arrive with vowels
that bend like rivers,
accents rising and falling
like drums in the chest.

Some of us carry skin
the color of midnight coffee,
warm sand,
earth after rain,
sunlit bronze.

· · ·

Some of us laugh too loudly,
roll our r’s too long,
speak in clicks
that never asked for an alphabet,
consonants that never learnt to apologize.

We bend grammar until it sings.

Good.

· · ·

Because perfection never sounded like a choir.
It sounded like one thin note
trying too hard to be pure.

· · ·

But beauty
beauty is a chorus.

It plays in many notes,
walks with uneven steps,
wears scars
like quiet constellations across the body.

Your crooked smile,
your grandmother’s language
still living in your throat,
your name they stumble over

all of it is architecture.
all of it is history.
all of it is proof
that the world was never meant
to look the same twice.

Truth or Dare

Someone asked once, Truth or dare?

The room smelled of laughter and cheap wine, cards scattered like small confessions on the table.

Truth, I said.

…

But truth is never small. It arrives barefoot, mud on its ankles, carrying questions no one asked out loud.

Truth is saying I was afraid to love you because I knew you might leave.

…

Truth is admitting my voice shook the first time I spoke your name like a promise.

Someone spun the bottle again.

…

Dare, they said.

…

Dare is staying when the easy thing is walking away.

…

Dare is placing your fragile heart on a table full of sharp edges

and holding it anyway.

Dare is saying yes to the question you wrote but never sent.

Dare is the hand that reaches before the mind has finished arguing.

Truth tells us who we are.

But dare asks if we are brave enough to live like it.

To someone I love very much, I hope you know this isn’t judgment

It's hard to watch you make decisions that I wouldn't make for someone I love very much.

It's like watching a tv show, decision after decision raising anxiety, while I sit silent because you don't tell someone you love what to do. Rather, you're there to pick up the pieces. That's how you love someone you love very much, right?

It's hard to watch you not receive the love the way I would want someone I love very much to be loved.

You give and give, thinking that in the giving, one day, it will be reciprocated. You pile more on your back, making their life as easy as a breeze while trudging deeper and deeper into the mud. You excuse, and permit, and accept that which you should not have to excuse, and permit, and accept if only you believed you could ask for more.

It's hard to watch you not love yourself the way I would hope someone I love very much would love themself.

How do I put into words just how much you are loved? Convince you to drop the armor, unwind the invisible scars, soften the difficult moments. How do I convince you to love yourself the way I love you, see yourself the way I see you?

Because sometimes I can't help but feel - if only I had loved you more, then you'd know the world is yours for the taking, instead of fighting so hard for a life and a love so much smaller than what you deserve.

I once met an entrepreneur

who carried a number in his pocket:

Six hundred seventeen doors closing

with the same dull sound

no.

༄

He said the trick was not to listen

for silence afterward,

but for the hinge.

Because a hinge means

the door moved.

༄

617 lives in me now

in the space between ribs

where hope goes to heal or harden.

༄

Some nights I press there

and feel it pulse,

a second heartbeat

made of no.

༄

Yesterday a small email arrived,

polite as rain on tin.

༄

Thank you for your submission.

Not this time.

༄

The words fell softly

but I heard the echo

that familiar thud

against the ribs.

༄

For a moment the room

held its breath.

༄

Then something in me shifted,

slow and deliberate

like something rusted learning to give

༄

This season is not for folding.

This season is for pressure.

༄

Pressure on the page,

pressure on the doubt,

pressure on the quiet voice

that whispers maybe stop.

Let the doors close.

Let them sound their hollow music.

the way you loved that person
at the wrong time
in the wrong season
with everything against you.

No one coded
the exact weight of your grief.
The precise shade
of your stubborn hope.

If this is a simulation,
it did not account for you.

Not the real you.

…

The one who keeps standing
after the system says
stay down.

…

The one who finds meaning
in places
the algorithm forgot to search.

…

Not the one who loved
past the point of logic.
Who hoped
past the point of evidence.
Who looked at the data
and decided
it was wrong.

You were not in the model.

The model said:
this much pressure
produces this much breaking.

You broke differently.

Even the earth that breaks still remembers how to grow

My feet remember the earth

before I ever learned its name.

Bare feet, heavy road

The morning rises heavy,
weight clinging
like wet cloth.

Every step measured.
Every breath
a quiet negotiation
with gravity.

I say I am tired.
What I mean is:
I am afraid
this is all the strength
I will ever have.

🦴🦴🦴

Hands ache
from holding too much.
The heart bruised
by roads
that bend without warning.

Hope says
the road leads somewhere.

My bones say
the road
simply continues.

🦴🦴🦴

Some mornings I wonder
if perseverance
is just the name we give
to people
who do not know
how to quit.

The sun climbs anyway
indifferent
to the argument.

Still the day asks:

Will you move?
Will you rise?

And I do.

Slow.
Stubborn.
Trembling.

The Thing I Pray Against

A moment of prayer and confession — the tension between faith and envy.

I kneel with clean hands
and a crowded heart.

I say, “Lord, enlarge me,”
but what I mean is,
do not enlarge her.

I love like a sermon without a pulpit
loud in the chest, quiet to the world.

I watch blessings fall
like rain on roofs not mine,
and call it divine timing
while counting the drops.

Faith says: trust the harvest.

Jealousy says:
why is her field greener
when you have watered mine with tears?

I clap for her promotion,
her love,
her answered prayer

but something in me
tightens like a fist in church.

I know the scripture.
I know the promise.
I know envy rots the bones.

Still
I measure myself against miracles
that were never assigned to me.

And the worst confession?

Sometimes I fear
God is proving
that I am not chosen
only watching.

So I kneel again.
Not to ask for more.

But to ask for freedom
from the hunger
that makes another woman’s light
feel like my eclipse.

Love is a verb.
Not a tremor in the chest,
not a rumor of warmth
but motion.

It walks into the room.
It stays.
It lifts what is heavy.
It bends without breaking.

Does it bloom quietly,
like moss thickening over cool stone,
soft as breath,
patient as shade?

Or does it strike sudden,
lightning splitting dry earth,
air metallic with aftershock?

Does it heal?
slow as water wearing down rock,
drop by deliberate drop?

Or does it push
until walls crack,
until pride gives way
and something truer stands exposed?

They say a king once built
gardens that climbed towards the heavens,
terraces suspended in air,
rivers lifted against gravity
for the woman he loved.

The Hanging Gardens of Babylon
myth or memory,
proof that devotion
is architecture.

Not because the land was fertile.
Not because it was easy.

But because she missed the mountains.

So water was lifted
against gravity.
Stone was carved
into devotion.

Love does that.

It engineers beauty
where it should not survive.
It hauls rivers upward.
It builds shade in a desert.

But gardens do not suspend themselves.
They require tending,
unseen labor,
hands that choose, daily,
to keep the roots alive.

Love is not the wonder.
The work is.
Not the legend,
but the lifting.

Life hands you lemons

the same way it hands you a deck of cards

no warning, no fairness, no apology

just a quiet dare: What will you make of this?

Some fold. Some freeze.

But you reshuffle your deck,

play the long game,

let effort tip the scales,

turning every bitter moment into lemonade.

Because in your hands:

Even the joker becomes a winning card.

Lemons roll, cards tilt,

an ace slips sideways, bending chance.

A rhythm stumbles, notes collide;

life keeps the beat,

we keep playing.

We don’t quit when it’s hard.

We quit when it’s done.

And when the final card falls,

the last lemon wrung dry,

you rise—

the joker revealed,

unstoppable—still turning.

P.S. Circumstances are random. The cards don’t consult you. The lemons don’t ask permission.

The Ones Who Look Like Us

They are what happens

when audacity meets artistry.

When “too much” becomes exactly enough.

They write in colors

the world has not yet named,

sing in voices

that echo through valleys and alleys.

They carry our stories in their bones,

our histories in their hands,

before the world is ready to read them.

They look like us,

move like us,

breathe like us,

and still rise —

unapologetic,

unyielding,

uncontainable.

So here’s to the ones

who tell our stories

before the world is ready.

A relic. A risk.

She hears breathing.

From a life she no longer remembers—

a time when she tried, and tried big.

She remembers slipping, breaking, collapsing under the weight of almost.

She leans in and listens.

I have tripped

I have failed,

I bring my fire

not the earth’s tame whisper,

not a candle flicker,

but a wildfire,

the kind that clears a forest,

clears the air

so new life dares to breathe.

I bring my scars

not for pity’s meager purse,

but as proof I bled and lived.

Hieroglyphs of survival,

valleys where rainwater gathers,

proving the earth remembers.

I bring my voice,

raw and unfiltered,

a song of truth

that refuses to whisper

where it should roar.

I bring my dreams,

my stubborn hope,

the unrelenting pulse that says:

I will rise,

I will create,

I will matter.

And maybe

I bring what you never had.

But hear me:

you cannot summon me to the table

if you do not first see my worth.

For every table is different

some hold bread,

some hold stories,

some hold the ache of centuries.

And what we need on them

is never the same.

So when you ask me,

“What do you bring to the table?”

I will answer:

I bring myself.

Unrepeatable.

Irreplaceable.

Alive.

a courtroom with no judge,

only sinners in borrowed robes

pointing at sins

that don’t look like their own.

You lie in silence,

then call another’s lie betrayal.

You cheat in shadows,

then call another’s hunger disgrace.

You bow in your temple,

then stone the one

who bows differently.

We are all cracked glass

some polishing their fractures,

while mocking others’ shards.

And the loudest voice

belongs to the most guilty.

So tell me

who among us

is holy enough

to build the gallows?

Who among us

is clean enough

to cast the final stone?

We are just sinners,

judging other sinners,

for sinning differently

forgetting

that mercy

is the only robe

that fits us all.
